as-Salamu'alaykum wa Rahma
Alhamdulillah wa salatu wa salam 'ala sayyidina Muhammad. Raditu Billahi Rabban, wa bil-Islami Dina ,wa bi Muhammadin salallahu alayhi wa sallam Nabiya.
To proceed.
In this thread insha'allah we will discuss the topic of purification. The Muslim should always be clean and free from impurities. The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said, 'cleanliness is apart of iman.'
In this thread if Allah wills you will find : how to make Wudhu, Ghusl, Tayaamum, and their definitions. We will also discuss, impurities and what is impure, and the types of impurities.
The Muslim needs to be pure, before he/she can worship Allah.

PURIFICATION PART 1
Why do we have to make wudhu?
Allah says "O believers! When you wish to stand for prayer, then wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows and pass your wet hands over your heads and wash your feet up to the ankles" (al-maidah ,6)
Abu huraira reported that the messenger of allah (sallalhu alahi was-salam) said "Allah does not accept the prayer of the one who nullifed he's ablution until he performs it again"

Purification 2
Description of Wudhu:
there are obligatory parts of Wudhu, and there are parts of Wudhu that is Sunnah. The obligatory parts of Wudhu are :
Washing your whole face (hairline - jawbone - chin) completely - once.
Washing your arms (start with the right) (fingertips to your elbows - once.
Wiping your entire head (bringing your hands from your hairline all the way down to the back of your head) then putting your wet fingers in your ears -once
Washing the feet up to your ankles - once.
All parts of your body mentioned above must be washed completely.
The Sunnah parts of Wudhu are:
Having intention that you will be performing Wudhu.
Saying 'Bismillah'
Washing your (start with the right) hands (from your fingertips to your wrist) - three times
Rinsing your mouth and nose, and using your left hand for your nose - three times
Washing your whole face (hairline - jawbone - chin) completely - three times
Washing your arms (start with the right) (fingertips to your elbows - three times
Wiping your entire head (bringing your hands from your hairline all the way down to the back of your head) then putting your wet fingers in your ears - three times
Washing the feet up to your ankles - three times
You cannot jump around to different parts of your body. Say for example you wash your feet, then your head. This is not acceptable, since the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam did his Wudhu in this order. Which is the same way his Lord taught him.
And the proof for this is the Hadeeth of Uthaman Ibn 'Affan:
'Uthman Ibn Affaan called for water to do Wudhu. He washed his hands three times, then he rinsed his mouth and nose, then he washed his face three times, then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then he washed his left arm likewise. Then he wiped his head, then he washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then he washed his left foot likewise. Then he said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa salam doing Wudhu as I have done it, then the Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa salam said, *‘Whoever does Wudhu as I have done it, then prays two rakahs in which he focuses completely on his prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven.'
*His words : ‘Whoever does Wudhu' as I have done it, then prays two rakahs in which he focuses completely on his prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven.'
were glad tidings from him sallahu alayhi wa salam. Encouraging us to make proper Wudhu.
[Saheeh Muslim Kitab al-Tahaarah; 331]
Wiping over socks
The socks must be clean from all impurities.
You must have Wudhu when you are putting them on.
You can use it up to one day, and three days for the traveling person.
The socks must be thick (not to thick just thin, or nylon sock), and go over the ankle. During the time of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wasalam they would use khufoof , which were leather slippers/overshoe.
Taking off the socks or the khufoof, does not invalidate the Wudhu.

PURIFICATION PART 3
GHUSL
Ghusl in Islam means the bathing of the entire body with water. Proof of its legitimacy is embodied in the Holy Qur'an as follows:“ And if ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity, bathe your whole body” (Qur'an 5:6).
Occasions when Ghusl is Required as an obligatory Act
1.After the discharge of semen as a result of stimulation whether awake or asleep (i.e. in a wet dream). This state is known in Arabic as "JUNUB". If, after the dream no wetness is traced in one's clothing, bathing is not obligatory. However, in case wetness is found but without recalling any dream, performing Ghusl is obligatory.
2.After sexual intercourse (or the mere coming together of the two organs of a man and a woman, even though there may be no actual ejaculation) performing Ghusl is required.
3.Following a period of menstruation, a woman is required to perform Ghusl.
4.At the end of 40 days after childbirth, a woman is required to perform Ghusl but if the bleeding stops before completing the 40 days period, then she must make the Ghusl as soon as the bleeding stops.
5.When a Muslim dies, Ghusi is required for him/her except for the Jihad Martyr (Shahead).
Occasions for which Ghusl is preferred
1.Before going to Jumah Congregational (Friday Prayer).
2.Before going to Eid Prayers (Muslim annual feast prayers).
3.Before undertaking Umrah or Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah).
4.Upon washing a corpse. (According to many scholars, the performance of Ghusl is preferred for a person who washes a corpse).
5.When a disbeliever revert to Islam.
Essential Requirements of Ghusl
1.Intention to perform Ghusl is necessary because it is the dividing line between acts performed as a mere custom and deeds which are rewardable acts of worship. However, the intention is only by heart and need not be uttered.
2.The entire body should be washed. Water should reach and flow freely over every part of the body.
How Ghusl is Performed
1.Intend by heart to perform Ghusl.
2.Wash both hands up to the wrists for three times.
3.Wash the sex organs properly.
4.Perform Wudhu as usual (in the manner already discussed) except, that the washing of the feet would be delayed until later when all the rest of the body is bathed.
Pour water over the head three times, massaging the hair to allow water to reach its roots.
5.Pour water liberally over the entire body, beginning with the right side and then, the left side ensuring that no part of the body is untouched by water such as the armpits, inside the earlobes, inside the navel, between the fingers and toes, etc.
6.Finally, move a little further from where you were and wash your feet, beginning with your right foot and then, the left.
1.A woman will perform Ghusl just as a man does, except, that if she has plaited hair, she need not undo it. She only needs to throw three handfuls of water over her head (this is for the Junub [the one who is in the state of major impurity after sexual intercourse or semen discharge] but for the one who has just finished her monthly period or post-birth period, she must undo her plaited hair).
2.The person may after completing the Ghusl recite the supplication for concluding Ghusl which should be recited outside the toilet/bathroom and which is the same as the one recited after completing Wudhu.
On the authority of aisha
When Allah's Messenger (Sallalhu alahi wasalam)bathed because of sexual intercourse, he first washed his hands; he then poured water with his right hand on his left hand and washed his private parts. He then performed wudu as is done for prayer. He then took some water and ran his fingers in the roots of his hair. And when he found that it had been properly moistened, he poured three handfuls on his head and then poured water over his body and subsequently washed his feet.
Sahih Muslim

PURIFICATION PART 4
Tayammum
Tayammum means "To seek soil to wipe ones face and hands with the intention to pray, and so on"
On the Authority of A'ishah "We set out with Allah's Messenger on one of his journeys until we reached Al-Bayda' or Dhat-ul-Jaysh, where a necklace of mine was broken (and lost). Allah's Messenger stayed there to search for it, and so did the people along with him. There was no water source or any water with them at that place, so the people went to Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and said, `Don't you see what `A'ishah has done! She has made Allah's Messenger and the people stay where there is no source of water and they have no water with them.' Abu Bakr came while Allah's Messenger was sleeping with his head on my thigh. He said to me, `You have detained Allah's Messenger and the people where there is no source of water and they have no water with them.' So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving (because of pain) but the position of Allah's Messenger on my thigh. Allah's Messenger got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the verses of Tayammum, and they all performed Tayammum. Usayd bin Hudayr said, `O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours.' Then the camel on which I was riding was moved from its place and the necklace was found beneath it.''
Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded this Hadith.
When is it permissable to make Tayammum
1. When you cannot find water, or the amount one finds is insufficent to make wudhu
2.When you are injured or ill
3. If the water is too cold and you fear that it may cause you harm
4.When water is nearby but you dont want o fetch it due 2 fear (enemy)
5.If you are saving water for later use
6.When you fear you will miss the prayer if you make wudhu
How to make Tayammum
Tayammum consists of the following steps:
1.Finding a piece of ground which is free of najaasah. This could be any natural surface such as rock, sand, dust, grass.
2.Say bismillah.
3.Make niya, or intention to make tayammum.
4.Place the hands on the surface of the ground.
5.Lift hands with palms downwards, ensuring that no dust remains, may rub them together
6.Rub face with hands.
7.Press hands to ground and touch sides of hands together.
8.Rub right arm with left hand, from the fingers to the elbow, and back along the inner arm to the hand. Do the same with the other arm.
The same conditions that invalidate wudu also invalidate tayammum. In addition, a person's tayammum is invalidated as and when water becomes available.
Allah says "O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say, nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body if ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. For Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again." Surah an-nisa ,43

Purification part 5
Nasajah (impurities) and its types, and how to cleanse one's self from it.
Allah Ta'ala said :
'And He sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you'
[Surah al-Anfal; 8:11]
Purification cannot be achieved with any liquid other than the Tahoor which is water.
at-Tahoor: is that which is pure in itself and purifies. It is what came down from the sky, or sprang up from the ground, and is still upon its original state. This lifts al-Ahdaath* and removes al-Anjas** (impure object).
* Plural of Hadath which is a ritual state that a person enters upon nullifying his ritual state of Taharah (purification).
** Plural of Najasah : a filthy/impure object.
As for purification from Najasaat (impurities/ filth), it is not permissible except with water, because of his the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam - saying to Asma, in regards to menses blood: 'scrape it, then rub it with water, then pour water over it' [Saheeh Bukhari & Muslim] this is an Amr (command), and a command means obligation. He specifically mentioned water which indicates that it is not permissible to use other liquids, and because it is a purification so its impermissible with other than water, same as in the purification for Hadath.
And the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam also said: 'O Allah purify me with water, snow, and (water of) hail'. [Saheeh al-Bukhari & Muslim]
Definitions
Hadath (singular of ahdath) is the state that one enters when nullifying the ritual taharah (i.e. urinating, sexual intercourse ...etc.)
Najaasah (singular of najasaat) is the impure/filthy object (i.e. urine, excrement, menses blood ...etc.)
Types of impurities:
The excrement and urine of Human Beings, except for the urine of a baby male child.
The Saliva of Dogs*
Feces and Manure:
Menstrual Blood
The Flesh of the swine
* all of these impurities are cleaned with water. Except for the saliva of a dog, which is purified with washing the garment/clothing 7 times with water, and one time with mud.
Taharah is probably one of the most confusing and hard to understand parts of fiqh. This isn't even a atoms weight of the original text. I tried to break it down and make it as basic as possible. Please ya ikhwan if you have any questions, pm me or brother West.

Purification 6
What breaks the Wudhu?
Any discharge from the front or back passage (urine, stools, wind, etc.).
Emission of urine or stools from anywhere other than the urethra or anus.
Losing one’s mind: sleep, unconsciousness, intoxication, etc.
Touching one’s penis, because of the hadeeth of Basrah bint Safwaan, who heard the Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa salam say: 'Whoever touches his penis, let him do wudhu’. [Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood]
Eating camel meat, because of the hadeeth of Jaabir ibn Samurah, who said that a man asked the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam, 'Should we do wudhu’ after eating camel meat?” He said, “Yes.” [Saheeh Muslim]
Emission of Madhi which is the pro static fluid
Emission of mainy. Mainy is the fluid that is ejected from the man or women during intercourse, or in a wet dream. The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said: 'The water of the man is thick and white, and the water of the woman is thin and yellow.' [Saheeh Muslim]. You have to make ghusl from mainy for you to be able to pray. However, it breaks your wudhu.
