Why You Should Love Qabiil
Qabiil means
clan/tribe in the Somali language. To the Somali, the qabiil has been
the oldest form of government. A Westerner may identify themselves as
being from a certain city or state in a nation while the Somali
identifies themselves by their qabiil. The qabiil has been a
savior to the Somali. The qabiil provides the essentials for survival
in the harsh environment of the Somali lands. When crops fail or
livestock perish, the qabiil provides. A blood debt has to be paid, the
qabiil provides. A disaster strikes, the qabiil insurance company
provides the tools to restart. With qabiil providing so much, why would
anyone expect a Somali to abandon his or her qabiil for an alien
concept of a nation state ?I have met many Somalis who claim
they don't care for qabiil (whether they truly mean it or are just
being politically correct is hard to know) . To them, qabiil is a dirty
term/concept. They view it as the root of all evil for the Somali. Some
blame qabiil for the bitter civil war while others say qabiil destroyed
Somalia.I say " NO."
Qabiil is not at fault for the destruction of Somalia nor for the civil
wars. The true blame lies at the feet of the characters who have
seized/hijacked your qabiil's leadership and worked the qabiil
government for their personal gain. For many years, we knew our qabiils
yet we never had civil wars like those of the 1980s and 1990s.I place the blame for the sorry state of the Somali nation at the feet of every Somali adult. You failed your QABIIL and Somalia when you allowed the political opportunists to SEIZE
leadership of your qabiil. These political prostitutes (yes, they will
exchange services for $$$) bastardized the noble concept of qabiil to
serve their selfish needs. They strayed from the egalitarian traditions
of our great elders who worked for the greater benefit of the clan. So I urge you not to run away from qabiil or to vilify it, but
to embrace it. Love your qabiil and wrestle back control from the
political opportuntists. Return your qabiil back to the egalitarian
traditions of our forefathers that sustained the Somali people for
centuries. If we take back leadership of our qabiils, one qabiil at a time, the Phoenix called Somalia will once again RISE !

The Daily Struggles of a Farax
DATE: 12/17/2007 19:01:24 / MOOD: Full of life
Welcome to my blog: "The Daily Struggles of a Farax" Hope you enjoy your visit. You may wonder what a Farax is. Well, I have explored this in detail and wrote the following guide to knowing/identifying a Farax:
Protecting the Common Somali FARAX
The common Somali male, species "Farax Somalinus Africanus"
is in danger. Their numbers have been decimated in the 30 year old
Somali conflict. Thousands of Faraxs were forced to flee the Somali
civil war and poured out of the country into exile. There are four common Farax family groups:1. Taxiile Farax
- The largest Farax group. When not driving his taxi, Taxiile Farax
tends to gather with other members of his family in the local
donut/Somali restaurant. Taxiile Farax migrate to their feeding grounds
at dawn and dusk. Being nocturnal creatures, taxiile faraxs are most
activity between 8pm to 6am (due to driving their vehicles). You
may catch taxiile farax on any given weekend after being forced to take
a cab (for lack of a vehicle or indulging too much). In the presence of
the Taxiile Farax, one must be guarded about his or her behavior or
risk being thrown out of the taxi. 2. Akhwaan Farax –
A distinct family of Taxiile Farax. This family can be spotted by their
long manes and Capri pants. Large congregations of akhwaan faraxs
gather outside the local masjid every Friday. The Akhwan Farax numbers
have grown as more faraxs from other family groups migrate into this
tight knit community. The best place to spot an Akhwaan Farax is either
at the masjid or your local Dahabshiil. When approaching this type of farax, women folk are advised not to look them in the eye. 3. Gaalified Farax
– The most westernized branch of the Farax family. These faraxs have
adopted/assimilated into their host societies. You can spot them
wearing western clothes and often have gaalified names such Moe (for
Mohamed). This group is the most arrogant of the Faraxs especially
those with post-high school degrees (arrogance increases with the
degree). The best places to spot the Gaalified Farax is in your local
watering hole (bar) or club. DO NOT under any circumstances talk to the
Gaalified Farax in SOMALI, as it will elicit hostility in him due to
his attempt to hide his Somali origins. 4. Badiye Farax – Cultural conservatives who continue to act like they live in Somalia.
These faraxs have rejected all things western except for cell phones,
cable, public assistance and PALTALK. Favorite past times of these
badiye faraxs are to gather around at coffee shops to engage in an age
old custom, "FADHI KU DIIRIR" It is an ancient
Somali debate art form that makes HARDBALL look soft where the debating
groups engage in verbal duels. WARNING: DO NOT try to engage the Badiye
Farax in any debate as he will verbally thrash and humiliate you. This report has been compiled to promote understanding between Faraxs and their communities.
